WILD X-CEPTIONAL NY WOMEN WALKIN!!!!!!
This past April, I visited Dallas, TX for two reasons--to celebrate mom’s 78th birthday and to cheer my younger sister Doreen, who was walking 60 miles in 3 days for the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. This was one of the most moving experiences of my life. In fact, because of this humbling experience, I decided to participate in the NY 3-Day this October.
I will be walking 60 miles (20 miles each day for 3 days) from Rockland Lake to Pearl River with thousands of other courageous people to raise money for breast cancer. The net proceeds of the money will go directly towards helping more women detect and survive breast cancer. My role requires a significant amount of training and an unbelievable amount of physical and emotional energy. I have agreed to raise $1,900.00 in donations by September 10th. BUT I NEED YOUR HELP. Would you please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help me meet my goal? You can click the hyper-link and make your donation on-line. Also, be sure to visit the web-site www.bethepeople.com. You will then see why this is a life-changing event and why your donation is SO CRUCIAL. Once you have visited the web-site, you will see the incredible people who are involved in this event and why I have decided to participate. This year, according to the American Cancer Society, over 182,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer...over 40,000 will die. Most of them (80%) won’t have any genetic predisposition to the disease. It will come out of the blue - detected with a mammogram, during a visit to the doctor’s office, or in a self-exam at home. That’s if it’s detected at all. Fewer than a third of American women follow the recommended guidelines for self-examination and regular mammography. Many of them don’t have access to a doctor or are too afraid of the results to find out. You may not realize it but 1,000,000 women in America are living with undetected breast cancer. In America this year alone, a new case of breast cancer will be diagnosed every 3 minutes. Every 13 minutes this horrible disease will claim yet another life. That is why I am walking so far (60 miles). To do something BOLD about breast cancer. This journey is one of the most compelling opportunities that has crossed my path. I’m beginning to really understand the wisdom of age 45....LISTEN, LET GO, and TRUST. I hope that you’ll share this incredible journey with me - by supporting me in my fundraising efforts. If you have had or know someone who has been affected by breast cancer, please be sure to forward your/their photo to me. I will carry the photos with me on my journey and walk for them as well. I want you all there with me. The event is October 11 - 13th. Thank you in advance for your generosity!!!! BY THE WAY, MY SISTER DOREEN (FROM DALLAS, TX) IS FLYING IN TO WALK WITH ME. I CAN'T WAIT TO EXPERIENCE THIS JOURNEY WITH HER. MY SISTER GAIL WAS SUPPOSED TO DO THE WALK, BUT SHE BLEW OUT HER KNEE AND IS HAVING SURGERY - I KNOW SHE WILL BE THERE TO CHEER US ON THOUGH. I CAN'T WAIT FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11TH. WHAT AN EMOTIONAL JOURNEY WE WILL HAVE.....WISH ME LUCK!! All my best, Karen L. Carlson |
